MONTH OF MARY

May is traditionally known as the month of Mary. Depending on the date of the Ascension, it is technically possible for there to be six feasts in her honour during this month. Most people will be aware of at least two of them: Our Lady of Fatima (15th) and the Visitation (31st).
On the feast of the Visitation in some places it is the custom to use a special grace before meals to recall the visit that Mary paid to her pregnant cousin, Elizabeth. You might like to use it yourself on this feast:
Blessed be you, God of mercy and compassion, for you inspired Mary, the humble woman of Nazareth, to visit her cousin Elizabeth and to assist her in her earthly needs. Help us, that following Mary’s example we may remain always open to the needs and sufferings of others. Strengthen us with the nourishment of this meal, and bring us one day to love’s eternal feast in your kingdom. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
